
All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights, says Article 1 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. But is human dignity really indivisible and how can people maintain their dignity despite dementia? These questions and the social and political strategies for dealing with the "great forgetting" were the subject of a lively exchange at the current UNIQUE talk “Remain a human being with dignity ".
At the invitation of Josef Kalina and Volkshilfe Österreich, Dr. Heide Schmidt (founder of the Liberal Forum and the Institute for an Open Society), Prof. Dr. Peter Dal-Bianco (President of the Austrian Alzheimer Society) and Mag. (FH) Erich Fenninger (DSA, Director of Volkshilfe Österreich) discussed the term "dignity" and how it is connected with the disease dementia.
